I like the solenoid, and or diode additon. It seems simple enough, and have a few solenoid relays and diodes laying around.

Thanks Len19070!

Clive, I know who to ask when I need a circuit built for something.

dahoon, appreciate the offer for the research. I have a 1998 Dodge Ram truck 1500, but the solenoid relay suggestion may be more cost effective.

Now I know what the AUX center pin is for. I have a need to use back up light on one of my projects.

After a search I have some reading for those inclined to know more about
the alternator.

This may be an interesting read for some?
Found an example of a dual battery system such as Tow V & Teardrop:

This is a two in one layout for those that might install an auxiliary battery
under the bonnet of their car and/or one in a caravan or camper trailer.

A one wire alternator has an internal regulator built into it.

Please don't unhook the battery if you suspect that it or the battery is bad.
We have customers that do that and the alternator goes into a full-field charge since it senses no voltage on the line and it blows the diodes out of the rectifier.

Mike

So when working on the elect's and you unhook the battery to keep from the possibility of getting bit, this will hurt the alternator(possibility of blowing the diodes)?

Sorry Gage,

I meant to say while the engine is running and the alternator is operating. Not when the vehicle is shut off.

Thanks Mike. You had me worried there for a minute. Because that's the first thing I do when working on one of my on going projects. :)
