Hi everybody,
I work for a small company that sells cabinets, doors, and windows. I've been looking for some nice undercabinet lighting we could sell with our cabinets. The normal flourescents are ugly, and the halogen lights are kind of expensive, and potentially dangerous. I recently found a company that makes a variety of fixtures using Xenon bulbs. I ordered a small quantity for stock, and a couple of displays. They have this Xenon Mini Light that looks like a halogen puck, but burns a lot cooler. The manufacturer says 1/2 the heat. I ordered the 3 light set that comes with a line transformer for stock, but they also sell them individually without the transformer. They have 12v 18 watt bulbs, and can be surface mounted or recessed in a 2 5/8" hole. I got a neat plexiglas display that the lights are mounted under. After leaving it on for several hours you could put you hand on top of the plexiglas, and it wasn't even uncomfortable. I'm pretty sure you couldn't do that with a halogen light.
I brought my remote sensing digital meat thermometer from home to measure the temp. I loosened the mounting screws enough to get the probe between the top of the fixture, and the bottom of the shelf. The temp never got above 122 degrees. Not bad!
Check out their website at http://www.nslusa.com/ They don't sell online, but if anyone is interested, I can get them for you. You might also find them locally at a lighting showroom.
I know I'll be putting a few of these in my tear.
