Building Fishing Memories w/ Daughter

Postby PresTx82 » Tue May 22, 2007 2:06 pm

There's nothing like building memories with your children. This past weekend we took our daughter out for some trout fishing and she had a ball. I hope she'll remember this for years to come.

She even enjoyed helping her Dad clean them!

 Start em young and raise em right! Cleaning is part of the fun.

You daughter will surely enjoy telling her children the tales.

 I can't catch trout. They seem to know I'm gonna eat them.

I don't know how much she enjoyed cleaning them. She was all smiles until this shot.

It's great for a dad to take his little girl out. I'm taking my oldest to her first gathering this weekend.

Well, that was all the more fun doing the cleaning; getting her a little grossed out, but she made it and had a good time. Here's a few more of that experience.

Thanks for the great comments. We both appreciate it!

She did catch the majority of the trout this day and she informed me that "the fish like real worms, not that bait you use" (she was using real worms). I was using trout bait, but I just stopped and took up the camera and let her catch the fish and take pictures of her having a good time.

I'm open for any GREAT trout recipes if anyone has them. I have a few tried and true recipes, but if anyone out there has a secret trout recipe please inform .....!

Great pictures Mark. That's more what I expected for a girl and fish cleaning.

That last one looks a little too small to keep.

Nice pictures! It doesn't get any better than that... I remember the best times of my life was fishing with my grandad... I lost him when I was 13. Those times are golden.

Trout's good this way, if you have enough:

Filet two or three medium-size fish. Lay filets on lightly buttered foil-lined pie tin and "shingle" layers of paper-thin lemon and red onion atop. Set entire composition in grill and smoke over indirect heat about 15 minutes (check for doneness). Don't overcook!

Serve with fresh lemon slices and a little homemade sauce:

mix 1/3 cup good mayonnaise with 1/3 cup good sour cream
Blend in 1 clove crushed garlic
Blend in 1/2 tsp chipotle pepper
Blend in 1 Tbsp fresh minced dill
Blend in 1 Tsp frech minced cilantro

OR -- use the sauce and cold smoked trout to make a mousse for sandwiches.

This was from a week ago in New Mexico. She caught only one this time, but she begged me to go back out after we had a heavy rain during our first attempt.
