Heaps of RV's and campers to be found...

Postby Stuttgartwerks » Mon Apr 30, 2007 6:16 pm

Each weekend these days. Illinois 50 is jam packed by 5:00 PM Friday afternoon with weekender's. Makes the return commute a bit of a pain if you have to take that route. I usually slip past them by sliding in the back way via 161 through Germantown.

The ones I really get a kick out of are the big boats and trailers pulled by little bitty SUV's. You would think that people would consider the laws of physics when they tow huge stuff but then again...

My Grandfather always said "It's no fun being an idiot if you can't act like one." Guess he was right.
Best wishes,
Gary

No TD yet but we're located in Naperville (western Chicago suburb).

We're bidding on one, will know in a few days if we get it. :worship:

Thanks! We'll be joining in soon one way or the other.

The MIL/FIL are already in a couple groups but they have larger 5th Wheel style RVs, so we'll be looking for a TD group to join too just to learn and compare notes.

Well, looks like we'll be TD-less for a bit longer. :(

We were outbid on eBay this morning. And their bid is higher than we can afford.

We're both kind of down hearted, it *was* the perfect price and within a perfect distance for us to pick it up.

Oh well, we won't give up just yet. Budget is a bugger when you don't have it.

Have you considered building one? If you have basic tools and the inclination a simple build can come in at a fairly cheap price with the extras added as the budget allows. Click on the Generic Benroy Plans at the top of the page and it provides a simple step by step build. Plus the satisfaction of building is priceless.

We have considered it, but given the lack of time and space it's simply not an option for us (unfortunately).

I even offered to pay a friend who has all of the above and is a wonderful carpenter.

Well, we looked at the plans this morning and near as I can tell we could build it but it would take us some time. We're figuring it may take us the better part of 6 months or longer given the commitments we have.

We need to seriously sit down and figure it out. I'll start posting questions here in a bit that I have so far.

6 months isn't all that long considering I took a year and a half to get mine built. Of course I was only working on it one day a week. I put it together in a one car garage with limited tools. I borrowed a few and bought a few more tools as I went.

Down off rout 55 in Staunton, IL there is a TD listed a Country Classic Cars

Heh, well that's something to look forward to. We've decided on the generic Benroy though we may change the radius a bit to make it a bit "sexier".

I'm going to mock it up this weekend with some foam board and see how it looks.

We found another one too, but it needs a lot of work. Tough choice, fix one - or build one exactly the way we want it...

CCC always has some cool stuff!

Hey bruce,
I'm an Illinois newbie here in Romeoville, IL (SW suburb of Chicago). Met Rick last week (Naperville) as he and his fiancee came to see my teardrop I just picked up last weekend. Its a homebuilt done in Michigan. Making a few changes to make it my own and looking forward to my first weekend out in August. Hope to make the Oct 5th getogether.

It is great to see soo much interest in TD's in our neck of the woods!

Claw says a year and a half to build but I have had the trailer part a year and a half and due to some health issues it may be this fall before I get a good start. I guess getting started is the important thing. Deadlines are goals but the important thing is to complete this project when time, health and budget allowes.

My daughter's just got me Steve Frederick's Shop Manual and man is it worth the price! Read the PDF over the weekend and it is packed with ideas and how too's! Great for anyone whether you have skill or not. A must have for the home builder.

I will try to make it to the gathering for a visit but that is a bizzy time and it is also our anniversery weekend. Will have to see?
