I got a Raytek at Napa Auto Parts last year and am happy with it.
It was around $50-$60 and was neither top of the line, or bottom, though closer to bottom than top...
Extreme accuracy isn't needed by most of us for general temperature tests... most times, the "precise" temperature isn't as important as knowing if something is hotter than it should be...
As you've found, the "cheap" ones can be had for $20.00 plus shipping.
Mine works well for checking wheel bearings, engine temps, and just about anything else you can think of!
