I guess I learned on a late 80s Chevy stationwagon. But really I learned to drive playing videogames since I was a little kid.

Learned to drive in an early 70's 3/4 ton Ford pickup, 4x4 with a 4 speed when I was about 11. Couldn't reach the pedals for $hit I had to crawl up in the damn thing but I could pull a trailer and back it up if necessary (the truck & trailer). First car was a 70 Galaxie 500 but the first one I actually had street legal was a 71 Plymouth Valiant with a 225 slant six and a 3 speed on the floor. In retrospect I guess I should have registered the Galaxie, can't remember why I didn't.

Pinto Coup

Postby starleen2 » Sat Dec 01, 2007 12:15 am

Can't remember the year model of the car – however it was a 70's something Pinto coup (white) that belonged to my dad. Took the test in 1983. Don’t know if I passed on skill or the fear factor -highway patrol officer wanting to get out a future fireball situation at the hand of a rookie driver. Many years later my wife took her test - in SAME vehicle!

1977??

I learned to drive in a 1963 Plymouth Fury wagon push button automatic. Buttons were on the dash. I would get to back it out of the garage and pull it up to the house to leave for church. I was about 11. Upon returning from church I would get to put it back in the garage. My parents and I made a trip from Georgia to the california state line and back in that car towing a tiny travel trailer. What a summer that was

I was raised as a farmboy. Grandpa had a little vineyard tractor, I think it was a massy fergeson sp. I was about 6 or 7 and he let me go out in the walnut orchard and drive around. that was back in the early 60s. My first car was a 69 bug that I put a couple hundred thousand on.

When I was 15 Grandpa let me take him on a vacation in his 98 Olds (that's the model not the year) the year was 1971. I drove from Oregon to St Louis, down to New Orleans, through Texas to California. I remember my Mom said I had changed and wasn't her little boy when I got home.

My boys all learned to drive on 4 wheelers by the time they were 5 years old

It was either a 59 or 60 beetle. Old but not old enough for an oval window.

I learned to drive my granddad's 47 Dodge pickupwith a 3 on the floor crash-box when I was about 11. He used to let me drive some out in the country when we went fishing together... Some of the finest times I ever had! Sadly, I lost him to cancer when I was 13. My first car was a truck. 1949 Ford PU, flathead V8, toploader 4 speed with grannie gear 1st. I got it for sanding down a 40 Ford coupe to bare metal... by hand! It took me a month after school and weekends. I was 14 and drove it home. My mom was not happy... but she let me keep it because I had earned it. I couldn't drive it legally till I was 16, so I just worked on it a lot (and sneaked it out once in a while). I had an old Cushman scooter I could ride legally at 14. Funny thing is I sold the fixed up truck before I turned 16 and built a '17 T-bucket hot-rod with a 312 Ford engine in time for that big event... turning 16. I was BMOC with that car in high school... Even the rich kids couldn't top my neat 'ol hot-rod.

What did I learn to drive

Postby crankshaft » Sat Dec 01, 2007 10:13 am

Back in Tennessee, My dad had an old 35 Ford four door sedan stick shift on the floor. Rusted out floor boards you could see the road thru as we rolled along. Thats what I learned in. My three kids learned to drive stick shift dune buggies I built them. They ran over every bush and rock in the desert.
What fun.

The good old days gas was 18 cents a gallon. with a coupon chance to win a Cadilac.
