Hoosier, Buckeye, Great Lakes Tri-Chapter gathering 2009

Postby Kurt (Indiana) » Mon Jan 26, 2009 2:14 pm

Well, I finally got a chance to see “Chain of Lakes” State Park for myself.

“Tri-Chapter” gathering – July 31-August 1, 2009.
We hope as many people from each chapter will be able to attend.

Please begin your reservation process on Jan 31 (six months in advance) to get the best spots.

Reservations in the “Chain of Lakes electric/non electric CS5” area on the state reservation page will get you to the right area.

I will be sending a group email out to all of those on my email list with further information.

If there are questions, please let me know.

Thanks for setting this up. I appreciate your effort. :applause:

Questions, please.

Are we sharing this area with the general public or were you somehow able to reserve this entire area?

If we are sharing this area with the general public or if we have the whole area reserved but do not anticipate filling all the campsites with our group, should we try to fill up a certain range of campsites first so that those of us who attend will be together? I just couldn't bear the thought of being too far from Bob Henry!!! <g>

Thanks again!

Karl, this will be an "open" reservation. Other campers will be booked near us so the sooner you can reserve a site the better.

I'm looking at site #66 or #68. but anything within the three "loops" near the comfort station (CS#5) would be good.

Yes we share with the general public, but we start booking far enough in advance that we tend to take up an entire section before the public thinks about camping. Last year at Brown county we had 33 and that pretty well filled it up.
As far as a certain range, I post as people book there sites then others tend to just fill in around the first person with the spot they like. Some like morning or afternoon sun. I personally like full shade, on the booking site you can click and see what each site offers.

Long winded but I hope that helps.

Hey 8) How close to the Michigan border is this campground? :)

Rob
How is it that one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire? ~Author Unknown~

Oh God not the general public !

Not really that's the fun. They can't resist peeking in our little rigs. I had mine traded for a class "C" motor home at Salamonie last fall. Told him I couldn't afford the gas to get the land yacht home so no deal. I think every park employee can back after they were off duty to take tours. The stares trigger us to invite them over and we met more nice people with our little trailer. Just one of the hazards of teardropping.

Tim, "Pop-ups" are about the same general size. That's what I do but I don't think it makes a big difference. :o

I have always used pop up as the catagory with no problems.

My hatch "POPS UP"

Most parks insist you stay on the pad provided.

But what about Illinois ??

Postby Route66 » Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:34 am

Kurt -

My Governor called your Governor (I believe there is a recording of this somewhere . . . ) and he said it would be OK if "Chapterless" TD's from Illinois showed up.

There is some extra money involved, but we'll worry about that later.

Would it be Ok if we made this a 4 state shin-dig ?

Thanks -

Mike

Mike, you are always welcome to the Hoosier gatherings. In fact we have several TDers from Illinois.

Nice thing is that everyone who ever came to one of our gatherings is "instantly" a member of the chapter. (you can't beat the price)

Make sure to bring a kayak or canoe (or rent one). This place should be a "paddler's" dream.

BTW, You should start a chapter in Illinois, there are lots of campers in Illinois that would love to be "Land of Lincoln" chapter members..

Bob's right, it could be a Mid West gathering if things go well. :applause:
