Tumbleweed houses

Postby Guest » Sun Apr 18, 2004 7:15 am

I came across this a couple years ago... it's not a teardrop... heck it's not even a travel trailer. But it's so unique I thought I would show you a picture. And besides, it's on wheels! :D

Dear Guest,

I thought that picture looked familiar. I is a little out of the Topic but shows how big one could go.

It is in
Freewheeling homes by David Pearson
which also offers smaller trailers and many older very fancey ones too.

(he also wrote one on treehouses quite fun)

Maybe when I make my trailer I will put a wench on the roof and up park it in trees at least it would be bear proof.http://tnttt.com/images ... on_lol.gif

You also might look at
Tiny Houses by lester Walker
now out in paperback.
It offers a few houses on wheels but it is a very good ref. for someone wanting to build a small trailer and seeing what materials and setups can be used. They offer one that is solar and looks like an airstreamer in drydock.

and lastly
Rolling Homes by Jane Lidz
Handmade houses on wheels
You may have to check the lib. for that one.
offers small trucks to converted logging trucks.
Lots of ideas for interiors and stained glass and old wood doors.

This one is long out of print and quite collectable but you can find copies on www.bookfinder.com Price ranges from $38 to over $300! Glad I bought mine when it first came out.

Who every you are. Join this board. This site if great. I can build one of these and tow it up to my property in S Ga. and leave it there.

Someone owns property in Tenn. And they could do the same thing. I think it's Bev. Is it you Bev that owns Property in Tenn. Build one of these for that property and use the tear to sleep in on the way down and up from it.

This to me is what this board is all about. New ideas for these little trailers.

Thanks

Tumbleweeds

Thanks for the great site Ron! Though they're mighty dear, I LOVE the American Vardo! I think I've just given up on my plans for an Airstream and will put the same money in either the Vardo or the Chattel Hermitage.

Joseph,

Correct Joseph. I like both of those also. Was looking for something like this for the property in S. Ga. I can order the plans. Build it down here in Fl. and take it up there and leave it for a small cabin.

Thanks Ron and Guest for info.

Same story here. We have property up in Shenandoah County that we'd like to build on. These fit the bill.

I've always liked the tumbleweed houses. But they don't make sense for weekend camping. Hence the teardrop.

However, if I ever get some property up north, or down south, then I would be back to considering a tiny house for the property.

Would you guys build one on wheels, or would you build a stationary one?

Yea Joseph,

Cool thing is you can build them in your own back yard an then tow them to the property and leave them there if you want.

I'd build on wheels so I didn't have to drive the 4 1/2 hrs every other weekend to do the building. I could do the building in my own back yard and then haul the thing up there and leave it.

Nice little cabins. I wouldn't build one for use as a travel trailer if that's what you mean.

See, that's my problem exactly. I wouldn't want to drive hours and hours to build something. That's why this design appealed to me. It's called a Summer House by Les Walker, and it's prefabricated in one's back yard, and then shipped to the site for final assembly.

I'd save my nickles and let HIM build the thing! The more I think on it, I definitely favor the American Vardo. I think I could almost full-time in it if I did the interior layout right.

That's about the size of my 10x6 Benroy. But it's definitely laid out differently, plus you can stand up in it. But to full time in it? Are you sure you would want to do that? Especially with a wife and a dog???
