Axle and Fender Question

Postby Classic Finn » Sun Jan 01, 2006 7:08 pm

I have a question on axle and fender - Just to double check....

Our axle is 32" from back of frame to the center of the axle...and on this build we would like to use LIL Bear Fenders.... :D will they fit ok then lengthwise?

We are going to use 14 x 6 Smoothie Rims... Can anyone with these dimensions suggest tire size that will nicely fill these fenders?

11" wide KIT-style fiberglass fenders
$295.00 per pair, plus S&H ($65.00 base S&H West Coast US, additional for points East and foreign/overseas)

Im not sure but did Madjack and the gentleman building the 3 teardrops in Texas use these as well?

Heikki, I am using the same basic fender but obtained mine from RW Johnson ...you should have no problem with fitting the fender(plenty of room)

p.s. you should be able to go upto a 205/70/14 tire...we used a 205/70/15 and it is about as much tire as I would want to fit under that fender which is the 11" wide model...

I measured the ones from R. W. Johnson a few years ago from mine. They are Kit reproductions and maybe you can plug these dimensions into your plan. You might have to convert the legends to metric for your use.

Gee thanks - thats a good explanation and very nice looking fenders..

Thats easy to convert to metric... from inches on it... Inches x 2.5 will give the centimeters.. but now I have a very nice Inch Tape Measure
to work with so no problem...

I,ll go over and measure..

What is the difference between RW JOHNSON AND Good OL Boy Grants
KIT STYLE Fenders?

Best wishes

Heikki, they are basically the same style fender, I know from others posts(and his reputation) that Grants fenders are hi-quality units...the Johnson fenders are also...I have not had the oppurtunity to compare them side by side..yet. The Johnson fenders are also about $35 cheaper...

Take a look at Grant's offset door hinges too. They have an extra bend in them which makes them really easy to mount. It also makes them stiffer and gives an offset for weatherstripping.
