Headin' to the ADK in the spring and can't wait! I booked it a few months back as soon as reservations opened up. For those who have never been there... Fish Creek Pond in the Adirondak Park is a great place to camp. Huge waterfront sites and wonderful views.
Here's a pic of my trailer out on it's maiden voyage to Fish Creek this past year.

My trailer only took up a small portion of the site.

BTW... See you there Sandy! ;)

I'm kind of fond of that little trailer in the background.

Hi Theresa and Jenn.
I am hoping to stir a little interest in going out somewhere in Ontario before the Fish Creek gathering...just to make sure there are no hidden issues that snuck in over the winter with the camping stuff (really just an excuse to get out earlier into our provincial parks). The on-line reservation system for Ontario Parks has been down all winter so far, so there may be a bit of a rush to book once it come back on-line (luck favours those who are prepared).
Maybe Frontenac at the end of May, or Silent Lake...if the bugs aren't too bad.

Sandy- you can always join us at Sampson SP in NY, May 13-15. Always good to have our Canadian friends at our NY TearJerker events! Dave and Kate, & Albert and Kim are already signed up.
That invite goes out to you too, Jenn and Theresa!

Rick:
Sounds like a nice idea. The trailer is in storage in Niagara Falls, so I would be halfway there just going to get it.
Any insight as to temps / bugs at that time of year at the park? (The wife might be talked into going).

Sandy- Temps in May are generally in the upper 60's, lower 70's. I don't think bugs will be an issue (no black flies in that part of the state), and we'll be right on the lake shore, so we should have a nice breeze. Hope to see you guys there!

We went to Arrowhead last year (Huntsville) and really liked it...wouldn't mind going back. When were you thinking
Oh ya, the Parks Ontario site was down last time we checked

I think that we (er they now that I'm on the other side of the river) are really lucky in Eastern Ontario. You have Sandbanks and Presqu'ile on Lake Ontario, the St. Larence Parks....the Bird Sanctuary Park is nifty. Driftwood on the Ottawa River is nice and quaint. The northern Algonquin Parks, like Kiosk, Brent and Achray are serene.

I'm up for anything. I love travelling and if I don't go too far, I might be able to drag some tent camping friends.

The Algonquin Highway 60 campgrounds are approxiamtely equidistant from Ottawa and Toronto.

Silent Lake might be another option...half way between Toronto and Ottawa on Highway 35 (I think)

Ontario Parks come on line on Sunday...no other voices?
Arrowhead looks good, but it's a long way from Ottawa and Cornwall.
Silent Lake looks promising.
Any others?

Spring Plans 2011

Postby whitby guy » Sun Jan 16, 2011 1:15 pm

I've booked into Silent Lake Provincial Park for Friday May 27 / Saturday May 28 (leaving Sunday). Chose site #42 based only on the photos from Ontario Parks website...keeping my fingers crossed.
Anyone from the Ontario Tearjerkers care to join me, all welcome as always (and anyone else, of course).

Just a heads up for those hesitant...I've heard the last weekend in May is the only open window when blackfly season is over and mosquito season has yet to begin. And alcohol is legal at your campsite. That's important.

I'm going to try book that. I am a little tight on cash and these Teardrop meeting thingees are getting addictive and I have booked a few trips down south. I am planning to make one of these a month if I can. My poor little car is going to get a workout this summer, but I'm glad I have it. I'd love to spend more time in Ontario Parks. I enjoyed Driftwood and Brent last year.

You might want to consider sharing this on the Tearjerkers site to get some more exposure.

That being said, It would be great if some Ontarians could make it to the Crossroads of America meetup in Indiana during July. So far, I'm the only Canadian. Distance could be an issue. It is 500km from Windsor. I'm going as part of my summer vacation, doing a loopty-loop of the Great Lakes with the hounds.
