hatch supports

Postby john » Tue Mar 07, 2006 1:11 pm

I was going to post this in one of the stickies but felt if I did I may be hijacking.

I finally made my last pair of hatch supports. The first pair were for working out wrinkles and were able only to support the hatch frame. My second pair are much stronger and if needed the hatch can be supported with only one of the supports.

All hatch strut pivots are attached in this way:

They didn't work for me either. I had to go to the main page (bottom link) and look at them from there.

I altered the links. They should work now. I don't know why it did not work the first time. They worked when I tested them before posting perhaps because I was still sighned in with yahoo.

And I still can't reorder my pics at yahoo. It freaks out every time I try so I guess I'll wait till later.

sorry

Thanks guys and wow check out the camp in.

After seeing the one with the spring lock I thought about switching.
My galley has too much curve and too little space to have any straight struts. My strut had to be curved.

John,

Now that is the kind of creative hatch support I like to see. Like Ken said that is a very similiar approach to what we do. The big difference is the slot on ours is on the trailer and the pin is on the arm. Having a single one in the middle is nice because you only need two hands to close it, but yours is pretty darn slick any way you look at it. And hey, no gas struts going bad in the near future.

John:

I like your build pics. Good idea to cut the side framing out of plywood and fill in the voids with foam.

I went the gas struts because the weight of the hatch seemed to be too heavy for my daughters to lift without additional help. Your idea seems real functuional and simple. I like things real simple.
