you guys can now upload all your cad designs

Postby mikeschn » Sun Feb 26, 2012 2:00 pm

Here's a brand new section for you guys... Sketchup designs.. you guys can now upload all your cad designs.

I've set it up so it can handle skp, igs, dxf, sat and dwg. If you need a different file extension, let me know and I'll add it.

Meanwhile, will someone please test it for me with a sketch up file?

Thanks,

Mike...

Okay, I got the same error, it appears to be a nginx limitation. I've turned in a trouble ticket.

I'll let you know when it works for larger files.

I hope you have a big hard drive in that new server.

I was just thinking about that. I have a 60 gig harddrive in there. There's about 30 gigs available right now. If the average file size is a couple megs, then we have room for 15,000 uploads. Think that'll work for a little while?

Sounds like it will due for a little while. I don't know about average size, my 2.2 mb file actually has about 6 different renditions of my 2nd trailer build so it may be above average.

I replied in the announcement, didn't see this thread...

The file is 10.1MiB (10,633,475 bytes) and has the filename Pup's Penthouse.skp

I added it as an attachment to my post then tried to upload it. Is there another way I should have done it?

my google sketchup file is over 8megs and extremely detailed; including some wiring runs. It's a lot cheaper to make mistakes electronically.

Not sure how much I can contribute at this time.. But, can it accept (or be made to accept) .dgn files? I use MicroStation pretty much exclusively.

Can you export to step, sat or parasolid? Those would be preferred. DXF and IGES might also work...

Or you could download the free version of Sketchup and play and make models with that. That's what I doing. Currently reviewing the 888 page manual. :?

Would someone upload a larger skp file as a test for me? Larger than 1 meg, and smaller than 10 meg. I don't have anything with me, and support thinks they have it fixed. But I'd like to know for sure.

Thanks for testing that Dan, it worked. And it's larger than a meg!

I just tried to test it further, and it said 2 meg was my maximum upload size...

Just turned in another trouble ticket! :duh:
