Pressure regulator for 1# LP bottle?

Postby mikeschn » Fri Mar 17, 2006 11:18 am

Hey guys,

I just discovered that I can't run 1# propane bottles on my stove, because my stove requires a pressure regulator between the bottle and the stove. So do they make a pressure regulator to fit a 1# bottle? Or is there a fix that I need to do to the stove. If anyone needs to see pictures of the stove, just say so...

A picture would help. Make sure you include pics of the fittings.

is this for an emergency case where you would disconnect from your bulk tank? does that unit have a regulator that you can install the 1lb bottle connection upstream of? regardless, i would think you could go to a plumbing supply and get a suitable NG regulator for your needs. you just need to know what pressure the stove needs from it's literature and to make sure that you get adequate gas flow. some merely restrict gas flow to bring down the pressure whereas others are more full flow type units.

Raul,

That's exactly right... My hose has a pressure regulator on one end that fits onto my bulk tank. If I run out, and have no way to refill the bulk tank, I'd like to be able to use a 1# bottle...

The pressure regulator is part of the hose assembly (assy for Angib), and can not be screwed onto a 1# bottle... Let me get some hose pictures...

Raul,

This arrangement, hooked up to a 1# bottle doesn't work, due to the absence of the pressure regulator.

This arrangement works just fine...

Here's a close up of the ends that connect to the tank/bottle

Mike,

The adapter that is available for filling one pound containers from bulk tanks, can also be used to put the fuel from a one pound container into the bulk tank. If you had one of those adapters, you could carry it and a one pound container to put fuel into your bulk tank in an emergency. ;)

looks like you can't just put in a regular regulator, you'll need something approved by the RVIA for RV's and travel trailers. Either way, there seemed to be several options available...

Just make sure that the location of the regulator is properly vented or run a vent line outside.

Mike ya need something like this;

http://www.campingworld.com/browse/skus ... unum=24028

Its an emergency adapter incase your big bottle kicks you can run off of a 1lb'er. I use one on mine. I used to run a 5lb bottle with a 1lb bottle as a back up. But after the 5lb'er kicked and I went to a 1lb'er as a back up and I stayed with the 1lb'er. It connects from the 1lb bottle to the regulator.

Mike the one I showed you from Camping World, the "Propane Grill Steak Saver Adapter" is by Mr. Heater.

Marshall Brass also makes one called

"Second Chance Grill Adapter" part # G-480

Reviving an older thread, Northern Tool has one of these for $21.99
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200306161_200306161

They look pretty darned handy to me. Never needed one camping, but certainly have needed one around the back yard BBQ grill!

And here's an adaptor that will let you fill up those empty 1 lb canisters!

Mike,

On a former tear, I used a regulator from a BBQ. grill, mounted under the countertop.
You can just see it in the picture behind the brass shelf support.
I used only a 1# bottle with that setup, no other tanks.
The system started with the bottle, then the shutoff, the regulator, and finally the stove.
Took very little space.

On my latest, I have an 11# bottle, with fittings to allow use of a 1# bottle, or the 11# bottle.

That's pretty neat, Rob! :applause: What is the purpose of the tube that goes down between the 1# and the 11#? Looks like the opposite of an air chamber in houshold plumbing (because it points down instead of up).
