Question for the seasoned TD'ers

Postby Nitetimes » Tue Mar 01, 2005 2:08 am

Those of you that already have TD's and used them. Something I have been pondering lately. I know this may sound silly but what do you do with your shoes in inclimate weather? I don't really want them inside but putting them underneath leaves them open for a good soaking if the wind blows a bit. I was considering building a mesh shelf (expanded metal) under each door with a removable flap hanging down. Would also come in handy for drying shoes I think. I always end up with at least one pair of wet shoes when camping.
Any other ideas?

Well being in SoCal and being able to camp 10 out of 12 months. I try not to camp in inclimate weather  Other than that, I just set them outside the door. Just another reason for the extra room (that takes less than a minute to put up).

But your idea about some sort of a shelf under the doors is good. You could fab it in such a way that it would be easy to attach and remove. I do beleive I'll take a look under my tear to see what I can do along that line. Good idea.

Have a good day,

Dear Gage,
What is that chalk like outline on the ground around your tear?

This question isn't that far out there. Strangely enough it has come up before.

That was at Guajome down in Oceanside. They have big time ant problems and the white stuff is baking soda. The ants won't cross it. Some of the other teardrops would only put it around thier tires and front dolly wheel.

Looked like a crime scene to me!

As far as shoes go, I just tuck mine under the tear, but if its going to rain then I just toss them in a plastic bag and tuck it in the storage area at the head of the cabin. So far my feets is dry!

There is the chance though that you'll forget to put your shoes in the tear, and you'll spend the day with soakie cold feet... then you'll wish you could build a nice fire to dry your shoes... until you notice you forgot to cover up the wood pile too.... ooops! :?

we carry a couple of rubbermaid stools with us for a variety of things... at night, they go under the tear, far enough to be out of the rain, but close enough to be reachable...... works fine... and no bugs so far....

I remember someone use to put them in a rubbermaid box that they brought along. Snap the lid on, slide it under the trailer and you're set.

We carry along a pair of flip flops. We put our shoes inside the trunk so they stay clean and dry. If you get up in the middle of the night it's much easier to slip on the filp flops and it doesn't matter if they get wet.

I was thinking of the same problem.I was thinking of making a couple of step stools to help get in the trailer and put a hinged lid on top so you could lift it up and put your shoes inside. When you get ready to leave just set inside the trailer and go

You can go simple. Just get one of those little tent "gear hammocks."
Put a couple of cup hooks under your tear and hang the hammock for your shoes only when it will be very wet.

We use a piece of carpet remenant, about the size of a door matt, under each door and place a chair next to the door, so when you step out in the morning you have a place to sit and something clean and dry to step on and put on or take off your shoes. The teardrop stays dry with the EZ-UP canopy over it. I place my shoes on or next to the chair by the door. Simple. Remember "K.I.S.S" use what you already have with you, there's is no need to reinvent the wheel.
