INSIDE WALLS AND CEILING

Postby beverlyt » Sun Apr 03, 2005 5:58 pm

What have you used, other than 1/8" plywood for your interior walls and ceiling?

I'm freaked out at the cost I'm looking at to install all that 1/8" inside the Widget.

Also, I'm not all that thrilled at the thought of staining/protecting it all.

I used 1/4" luan from home depot. It's only 9.99 a sheet. And if you look you can find some nicely figured sheets of luan! Stained with a natural finish, it looks great!

Inside walls

Postby David Beckett » Sun Apr 03, 2005 6:19 pm

Bev,

I used 5/32 luan, but switched to 1/8 masonite for the inside front. It bent much easier than the luan. To hold it I screwed wood strips across it. check out pics at my site.

Good luck.

I've come to the conclusion that sheets of luan are not available here in Canada, or at least I'm not finding them. I think we are going to end up using sheets of panelling like you would use to finish off a basement. Not nearly as nice looking as some as the wood that you guys are using but probably the most practical for us.

1/4" luan?

Is this the same thing as plywood?

Do I ask for "Luan"?

Hey Bev, I used 1/8 paneling on my inside wall & ceiling. It bends easy , glue & brads held it up just fine. It was already finished in a wood plank style. I ran the ceiling length ways & the walls vertical , just like you would in a house. I had NO finishing to worry about , the cost depends on how fancy the paneling you get . Just my 2 cents worth.

Hey Boodro, do you have any pics of the inside walls finished? I looked in your album but couldn't spot any.

Boodro,
Yes, pics would be nice!

I'll look around at 1/4" luan for the outer walls/ceiling....
and see what is out there for paneling inside.

I used 1/8 inch paneling from Lowes. Turned out pretty well. It does bend extremely easy. Beware though this isn't wood paneling. Wood paneling seemed to stiff to make the bend.

I used red felt on the walls and a cotton picnic tablecloth for the ceiling, lots of upholstery tacks and spray glue. I'm very happy with it and it just feels warmer.
