Newbie from West Tenn

Hello everyone,

I am new to the idea of Tear Drops. But I remember some of those articles in Mechanics Illustrated back in the '50's.

When I was a teenager in 1953, my Dad and my two brothers worked all one winter earning money by shoveling snow off sidewalks to buy a tent from Sears and Roebuck. (When my mom passed away in 2002, we sold that tent to a young fellow who restored old tents for $10. It only cost $39 in 1953.)

When my kids were young (4 of them) I bought a big 9 X 12 from Sears and we used that for camping for many years. We would always sneer at the big motor homes and 5th wheelers at the camp ground.

Then in 2001, I bought a motor home. (I am trying to whisper). My wife Patricia and I wanted to have something we could take to projects like hurricane relief, etc and volunteer for several weeks at a time.

But...... A 32 footer with a 454 engine is NOT economical for weekend trips to Michigan, etc.

So...I am now thinking of putting together a TD for those quick trips.

Sorry about the long winded post. Just wanted to let ya'l know that if you see a picture of my 32 footer in the background of my building project, that's the reason for it. When I retire again, we plan to use it for those weeks long stays at some location where I can help with building or electical.

I have done a fair amount of building and I am an electrical automation technician with a Tenn electricians license. I hope I can be of some help with questions about electrical problems.

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the forum. I think with your background you are the ideal TD building candidate. Hope you enjoy yourself here, ask lots of questions and post lots of pictures of your build when you start. :)

And I'm sure we can always use more help in the "Electrical Secrets " forum.

Hey Dave,

Welcome to the forum. I think a "mad dash" teardrop is a great idea. Might as well plan on coming up to Michigan in it!

Mike...

P.S. Are you sure you want your phone number in your signature? :?
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

Thanks for the welcome.

Well Mike, that is exactly where my thoughts were, to travel to Mich to Sleepy Hollow State park for those annual family camp out weekend reunions.

My son from Big Rapids has organized them for the last 15 years and we have a great time together. But I AM NOT going to polute the environment with the emissions from that 454 for such a short time parking. (Besides the cost)

Yeah, maybe I don't want the phone number in the sig file.

Thanks,
Dave

Image to the playground/adult day center. Sounds like we got another. As you build you may find yourself spending inordinate amounts of time on the computer. If that happens (and it will) the cure doesn't work. The only treatment is the keep that bubble oil level by :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: :hammer: :designing:

Enjoy ;)

Thanks Neal,

Are we almost neighbors? I am in Northwest Tenn.

And thanks Miriam,

Actually, building a TD would get me away from the computer. I am spending way to much time on it now.

Pat and I drove over to Branson (which I assume is somewhat near you) last May. We went to one of those time share weekends. Beautiful country there and between here and there, but you can keep Branson. I like the country and a simple life.

Dave we went through Branson one time. That was enough. I am not into busy places and certainly not tourist traps. We were on our way fishing below the dam.
