Where do those dirty shoes go at night?

Postby Syekick » Fri Mar 25, 2005 6:31 am

It occurred to me that all of the floor in most TD's is the bed. So I open the TD door, sit in the opening, pull off my shoes and put them, where?

In a tent there's always a corner to place those dirty shoes to keep them out of the rain and convenient to pull on when needed. In a TD I suppose you could leave them under the trailer but after rain soaked shoes a few years ago I'm greatly opposed to that. A minor problem but I'll like to solve ahead of time.

What do you do with them?

Brian B asked that same question back in December... we came up with a lot of good answers...

Check them out here:

I carry a couple of rubbermaid stools. They go under the tear, shoes on top.... check for bugs in the a.m.... actually, if dry, I allow them inside. Since we sleep head to the back, there is space near the doors for them.

Sandals go on the flat h/f fenders within easy reach.

I just leave the outside. The cobbler elves come and pick 'em up, fix 'em up, bring 'em back.

I thought everybody had this service available to them.

Ahhh! So when I go out to the shop in the morning and look at work I did late the night before and say "I can't believe I cobbled that up so bad", it's those little cobbler elves that did it after I went to bed.
Thanks I needed an excuse.

I put them in a plastic shopping bag and leave them under the Teardrop. Then I have a pair of slippers I keep inside for going outside durring the night.

We have his and hers plastic storage bins with snap on lids. We keep our boots under the trailer at night. Hopefully this is enough protection to keep the critters from carrying them away at night.

Great idea, Michael. But if you don't seal the lid, the critters will chew the laces off your boots. Never have figured that out, but after backpacking over 3,000 miles, I learned a lot of things to do and not to do. One of the biggest "not to do" things was leave boots outside the tent, no matter what the weather. Now I have another thing I have to put on my list to buy for the tear.

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

Didn't vote yet as I have yet to camp in my unfinished td. But, around these parts shoes sitting still on the ground are likely to become home to a horde of fierce fire ants, whether your feet are in them or not. So I will likely choose to bag them inside the td.

Since my trailer will be a walk-in type, I'll just kick then into a convenient corner. Actually, there will be space under the front end of the bed for them so I won't step on them when I get up to use the porti-potti.
:D
What? You don't have a porti-potti in your trailer?
Or room to use one?
:x
Sorry about that!!!
