It pretty much works - a 6:00x6 aviation tyre is 17" diam x 6" width which is about the same as an 8" tyre - a 12" tyre is 21-22" diameter.
Several factors:
- Road tyres need to stick out of the pants further as roads have obstacles like kerbs (sorry, curbs) that are not often found on runways....
- The wheel pant moves with the wheel on landing gear, so either you have to rig up brackets to do that on a trailer, or the pant has to be mounted high enough that the wheel doesn't hit it at full bounce.
- That
brochure says there are bulkheads inside the pants - they probably have to be removed to make space for the larger tyre. But that's still a lot less work than making your own fenders.
However, the size remains a killer. Here is the Roswell with these fenders to scale:
