The current run up in the price of oil is not really a increase in the price. That is staying relatively constant. The thing that has been changing is the value of the US dollar. It has been dropping and dropping a lot. A consequence is that everything imported will be going up and things made from oil like tires will be going up even more. This is all fallout from the collapse in the subprime mortgage market.
From an export perspective it makes US goods cheaper overseas. That helps exports.
