Great IRG raffle gift...thanks Mark!!!

Postby doug hodder » Sat Jul 03, 2010 7:25 pm

I just got these in the mail yesterday....a couple of very lucky IRG attendees will get a chance to win them in the "pay it forward" raffle. Mark72 taps his own maple trees, cooked down the syrup, and blasted the bottles with the logo....Thanks so much Mark. This is the stuff that makes teardroppers such a special group of people...well done guy! Doug

Mark
Nice job on the bottle, & thanks for you donation.

I'm sure that it would be very tasty on some cast iron waffles.

Maybe we could cook up some & ship them to you.

Thanks again.

I hope the lucky recipients enjoy their homemade maple syrup. The idea for the commemorative bottles was hatched before it was clear whether or not I would be able to make it to to this IRG. You know how hard it is to kill a good idea right?! Enjoy!

What is "Pay It Forward" Raffle?

Postby Blumie » Mon Jul 05, 2010 4:06 pm

As a new IRG attendee, I've been wondering what the "Pay It Forward" Raffle is, and am glad to see someone else also asking. My other questions are, how far is the nearest ice/grocery store, and do folks usually go out or stay put during the gathering? I'm thinking about packing the camp food pantry for next week!

There is a very complete grocery store/with gas less than 10miles away, or pretty close at any rate. The raffle is just that...bring some small item that would be useful when camping...IE...first aid kit, bottle of wine, grill tools, etc... or something from your local area that others might not get a chance to find. Everyone dumps some tickets (free) into the bag for a chance to win. That drawing is held on Sat. night. Doug

The nearest ice/grocery store is about 8 miles west of Pamplin Grove on Highway 36... Murrish's Market in Hydesville.
Some folks hang at the campground the entire time and some folks go exploring to take in what else the Northcoast has to offer.
The "Pay It Forward Raffle" is a raffle where folks bring something they think others would like. You can't buy raffle tickets... You earn them by doing random acts of kindness onto others. Each item will have it's own basket or bag for tickets... Improving your odds to win what you want to win.

Mark!!!  :applause:

Paying It Forward

Postby Blumie » Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:33 pm

"... doing random acts of kindness ONTO others" would be like, what, inflicting a piece of coffee cake hot out of the dutch oven on someone passing by?

I think the "pay it forward" concept is to do something now without any expected immediate return but in the long run those selfless acts of kindness/generosity will generate rewards. Just my interpretation.

Jerome has it right....I let him acquire ice out of my cooler for his "apple juice" on a weekend of camping and then down the road he "gifts" me an iron bacon and egg skillet. Thing is, you never know sometimes when it's coming back to you or from whom. It's a real "what goes around, comes around" thing....a real teardropping thing....OH OH...I'm in a TTT! Doug
